Belgium has a rich history of involvement with Little League baseball. Antwerp, the epicentre of Belgian baseball, competed back when General Motors and other U.S. companies sponsored teams. The expatriate community in Brussels has been sending teams to the European championships and World Series for generations, most recently in 2004 and 2006. The first girl ever to play in the Little League World Series, Victoria Roche in 1984, was on a team from Brussels.
In 2010, a new era began. Every kid playing organized baseball in Belgium now has a chance to compete in an all-star team representing his or her region, Flanders West, Flanders East, Brussels and Wallonia.
Belgium is not changing its youth championships. The Belgian federation continues to run the regular youth season via the Flemish league VBSL. The Brussels Sports Association continues to run an April-to-June season. But come July, it is tournament time with the Belgian Little League Championship!
